John Swann Shepard

John Swann Shepard was born in New Bern, North Carolina, in May 1797. After moving to Leon County, Shepard was instrumental in the process of building a new brick Capitol building during the 1830s and served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners from 1848-1853. He died on June 21, 1853, and is buried in St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.
