John Pershing Sullivan was born on April 5, 1918, in Tallahassee, Florida. He attended Leon High School and Florida State University before serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was elected to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners for District 1 and served from 1949-1952. He was elected Chairman of the Board from 1951-1952. During his time in office, he supported roadway improvements such as paving, signage, and parking. He was active in the veteran community and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Sullivan died on March 12, 1975, and is buried at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee.
