Jane Grissett Sauls was born in Tallahassee on August 18, 1943. She graduated from Leon High School in 1961 and worked two years in the state attorney’s office before spending 32 years at the Leon County Clerk of Circuit Courts Office. Following her retirement, she ran for the Leon County Board of County Commissioners District 2 seat. Sauls was elected to the Board in 1996 and would go on the serve five consecutive terms. During her 20 years in office, she championed the interests of the Fort Braden community and beyond. She was central to key County projects including the Fort Braden Branch Library, which opened in 2002, the Fort Braden Community Center, the Woodville Branch Library, and the Public Safety Complex. She was elected Chair of the Board three times in 1999-2000, 2003-2004, and 2007-2008. On October 26, 2016, the County's Fort Braden Branch Library was renamed and dedicated to Commissioner Sauls in recognition of her 50 years of service to the community. Sauls died on February 15, 2018, and is buried at Oakland Cemetery.
