Jack George Whiddon Sr. was born on October 28, 1917, in Stillmore, Georgia. He moved to Tallahassee in 1924 and graduated from Florida High School. He worked for the Seaboard Airline Railroad and went on to own and operate Whiddon Glass Company. He was elected to represent the citizens of District 3 on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners in 1957 and served five terms until 1977. He advocated for building a new County Courthouse, creating a truck route around Tallahassee, expanding the County road system, and more public parks and hunting and fishing areas. Whiddon was elected Board Chairman from 1960-1961, 1965-1966, 1969-1970, 1972-1973 (to complete Tom Brown’s term from November 1972-January 1973), and 1976-1977. A loyal public servant, Whiddon served on the North Florida Fair Association Board of Directors and was a member of Tallahassee Elks Lodge 937 and the Robert Butler Masonic Lodge. He died on March 7, 2011, and is buried at Oakland Cemetery.
