A lifelong Leon County resident, Hunter McCord Bannerman was born on November 3, 1888. He farmed shade tobacco and, together with his brother William, operated the Bannerman Brothers firm. From 1933 to 1950, he served as County Commissioner for District 2 and led improvement projects on several government buildings and county roadways. He encouraged voter participation by arranging free transportation to polling places. He also served several times as Vice Chairman of the Board. He died July 28, 1966, in Tallahassee and is buried at Roselawn Cemetery.
