George William Rhodes was born in South Carolina in May 1859. He owned a large acreage of timber near Woodville, ran a naval store, and operated a turpentine plant in addition to farming crops. He served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners representing District 5 from 1911 through 1914. He was a member of the Elk, Shriner, Masonic, and Odd Fellows lodges. Rhodes died in Jacksonville on August 5, 1937.
