Years of Service: 1986-1998

Gary Yordon was a local radio and public television talk show host. He was elected to represent the citizens of District 5 on the Leon County Commission in 1986. During his three terms in office, Yordon advocated for protecting the environment and controlling growth, opposing the construction of a new Publix and high school in Bradfordville. He supported building a new jail, worked to establish environmental codes, and prioritized serving the needs of low-income residents. He was selected as Board Chairman in 1989-1990 and 1996-1997. Active in the community, Yordon worked as a community specialist for Legal Services of North Florida and produced and hosted an annual Cerebral Palsy Telethon. He volunteered with Easter Seals and United Muscular Dystrophy.
