Ed Depuy

County Commissioner

Years of Service: 2001-2002, 2004-2008

Ed DePuy was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on October 7, 1946. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminology from Florida State University. He served as a Florida Highway Patrol trooper and deputy sheriff in Brevard and Seminole counties. He later became director of the Division of Regulation with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. In July 2001, DePuy was appointed to the Leon County Board of County Commissioners by Governor Jeb Bush to fill a seat left vacant following the suspension of Rudy Maloy. His appointment ended in December 2002. Two years later, he ran for the At Large Commission seat and won, serving from 2004-2008. During his time in office, he advocated for a reduction in the inmate population through the expansion of a work-release program and electronic monitoring of nonviolent offenders. He also pushed for pay raises for sheriff’s deputies and correctional officers, a primary health care program for uninsured residents, and the County charter. The creation of a joint City and County emergency dispatch was one of his top priorities. He was selected to serve as Chairman from 2006-2007. DePuy died on April 5, 2013.
