Dessie Roland Cook was a native of Wakulla County who later became a turpentine operator and landowner. He served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners from 1941-1942, with a particular focus on economic, social, and civic development. During his time in office, he was elected director of the Northwest Florida Association of County Commissioners and the secretary-treasurer of the Florida Association of County Commissioners. He died on December 25, 1993.
