Brian Welch received a master’s degree in the Applied American Politics and Policy (MAPP) program at Florida State University in 2003 and a second master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida in 2016. He has been a social studies teacher at Chiles High School since 2007, where he supports student success by serving as faculty sponsor and coordinator of various clubs and activities. 

Welch was elected to the Leon County Commission in November 2020 to represent the residents of District 4. During his time in office, Welch has advocated for initiatives that support quality of life, public safety, and infrastructure, such as the development of a Northeast Tallahassee park, the creation of Family Day on the Friday following Thanksgiving, and renaming the Northeast Branch Library in honor of veteran and former District 4 Commissioner Bruce J. Host. 

Welch is also active in the community, serving on the board of the Foundation for Leon County Schools and the Centerville Conservation Community homeowners association from 2017-2020.
