Alphonse Pichard

Alphonse Pichard was born November 25, 1881, in Tallahassee, where he lived his whole life. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served on the board of directors of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. He was the first president of the Tallahassee Federal Saving and Loan Association, served as president of the Rotary Club, and founded the city’s oldest building supply house alongside his brothers. Pichard represented District 5 on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners from 1933 to 1938. During that time, he served as Chairman of the Board, championed efforts to beautify and improve county roads, and proposed saving taxpayer money by installing voting machines at ballot places. Pichard died in Tallahassee on December 16, 1961, and is buried at Oakland Cemetery.
