Leon County Tire Amnesty Days Roll On

Leon County Continues to Host Tire Amnesty Days to Prevent Mosquito Breeding Grounds

WHO:  Leon County Government
WHAT:  Tire Amnesty Days
WHEN:  Now through Friday, May 26, 2023
WHERE:  Leon County Solid Waste Facility and Rural Waste Centers

Leon County Government reminds County residents that its annual Tire Amnesty Days program continues through Friday, May 26, 2023. In partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, citizens can drop off old tires for free at the following Leon County drop-off locations:
  • Leon County Solid Waste Facility, 7550 Apalachee Pkwy.
  • Rural Waste Center – Woodville, 549 Henry Jones Rd.
  • Rural Waste Center – Fort Braden, 2485 East Joe Thomas Rd.
  • Rural Waste Center – Miccosukee, 13051 Miccosukee Rd.
Just one tire improperly stored in a backyard can become a breeding ground for thousands of mosquitoes, which can carry diseases like Zika, West Nile and Dengue Fever. During Tire Amnesty Days, Leon County residents can dispose of old tires for free, helping to keep the community safe and protect our environment. Last year’s Tire Amnesty Days event garnered more than 145 tons of tires, which were recycled and repurposed for playgrounds and other facilities.

Since November 1, 2022, Leon County has collected over 30 tons of tires through the 2022-2023 Tire Amnesty Days program and continues to work to exceed last year’s number of tires collected to protect our environment and community.

Drop-off for Tire Amnesty Days is available at the Leon County Solid Waste Facility from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or at one of the Rural Waste Service Centers on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tires without rims are preferred.

Residents may dispose of up to 25 passenger car tires free of charge. Commercial loads will not be accepted. This event is for tires only, and no other items can be accepted. For more information, visit www.LeonCountyFL.gov/Mosquito.

Beyond Tire Amnesty Days, citizens may visit the Leon County Solid Waste Facility and Rural Waste Service Centers to dispose of tires, household garbage, recyclables, yard waste, bulky household items, hazardous waste, and white goods during normal business hours. Normal service charges will apply.
