Leon County Administrator Vince Long Elected President of the Florida Association of County Managers
On Wednesday, June 17, Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long was elected President of the Florida Association of County Managers (FACM) at the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Annual Conference in St. Johns County.
“It is an honor to serve as the President of this group of dedicated servant leaders,” said County Administrator Long. “I look forward to the opportunity to maximize our collective impact on the communities we serve.”
FACM was established in 2014 by county managers from throughout the state as a professional association to address common challenges and opportunities that impact county government in Florida. The association also serves as a mechanism for FAC to obtain policy guidance from county executives on statewide issues affecting counties.
“FACM is a tremendous resource for sharing information and management strategies for the benefit of all Florida counties,” said FAC Executive Director Chris Holley. “Vince’s collaborative approach and energetic leadership style will galvanize this group of professional managers.”
A proven leader, dedicated public servant and accomplished professional public manager, Long was selected from among more than 60 county administrators and managers to serve in the association’s leadership post. Since becoming Leon County Administrator in 2011, he has received national, state and local recognition for his leadership, transparency in government, citizen participation and fiscal stewardship.
“This is a testament to the professional leadership that Vince continually demonstrates as our County Administrator,” said County Commission Chairman Mary Ann Lindley. “I would expect big things from FACM with Vince at the helm.”
Long's commitment to the local government management profession has been extensive. He is a member and past Board Director of the Florida City and County Management Association, a Credentialed Manager of the International City/County Management Association and currently serves on the faculty of FAC's County Commissioner Certification Program.
Long holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the Askew School of Public Administration at Florida State University and is a graduate of the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government Institute for Senior Executives as well as Leadership Florida. He has served as an adjunct professor and is a regular lecturer in the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University.
As the President of FACM, Long will have the responsibility of ensuring that the association provides a forum for county managers to develop professional relationships, discuss current and future issues affecting counties, and provide mentoring opportunities, education, advice and advocacy on statewide issues.
