Interlibrary Loan Information

Interlibrary loan is a time-honored courtesy between libraries in which libraries borrow and lend materials to other libraries for their patrons' use. It is based on protocols and good will. Materials are requested in accordance with the FLORIDA LIBRARY INFORMATION NETWORK policy. Many participating libraries have reduced or stopped completely their interlibrary loan service. In consequence we are no longer able to request renewals for borrowed material. Please pick up your interlibrary loan requests as soon as possible after notification.

  • The library does not charge for interlibrary loans however not all lending libraries are free. At times lending libraries place restrictions on how their materials can be used.
  • We attempt to borrow all materials with the exception of ebooks, downloadable audio files, reference materials and text books. Students are referred to their schools.
  • Participating libraries keep titles in high demand for the use of their patrons and will not lend an item that is less than 6 months old.
  • Each patron may have 5 active requests. Requests are active until completed and updated as closed by interlibrary loan staff.
  • We strive to fill requests within 4-6 weeks but time can vary.
  • In order to process requests in a timely manner we are unable to request the same title for the same patron within a six-month period.
  • Interlibrary loans will not be checked out to patrons with overdue materials or outstanding fines. Patrons will be expected to pay the replacement cost of damaged or unreturned items as determined by the lending library’s policies.
  • Interlibrary loans cannot be renewed.
