Education Programs

Do you want to learn more about Solid Waste, Waste Reduction and Recycling?

Invite our Community Education Coordinator to your classroom or community group to "talk trash". Students will learn about waste stewardship by reducing the amount of garbage we make.

Leon County operates the Solid Waste Management Facility and the Transfer Station to handle solid waste. Both facilities play a vital role in the Leon County Integrated Solid Waste Management System.  The Recycling Program provides FREE public education programs on solid waste management and the role that YOU, our residents, play.

Solid waste management is an issue that affects everybody. Leon County produces 800-1,000 tons of garbage daily. More than half of that garbage can be reused or recycled.

Some easily recyclable items can sit in a landfill for up to 1,000 years. By making sure we maximize recycling, we help reduce the need for more landfills.  Recyclable products such as paper, glass, aluminum, and steel can be made into new products that you buy every day.

Would you like to know more? Call Carole Gentry at 606-1827 to set up a FREE presentation at your school or community group or to schedule a landfill tour for your group.
