The Office of Intervention and Detention Alternatives encompasses the Supervised Pretrial Release, Probation, and Drug and Alcohol Testing Divisions which are dedicated to restoring and enhancing the quality of life of the clients they serve and assisting them in becoming productive and responsible citizens for a safer community. The Supervised Pretrial Release and County Probation Divisions provide pre- and post-sentence alternatives to incarceration to safely reduce the reduce the detention facility’s population. Intervention and Detention Alternatives’ staff provide defendants or probationers with referrals to appropriate treatment or social service agencies resources with emergency sheltering, housing, employment training and placement, and transportation. etc. Providing referral to community partners for essential services improves supervision outcomes and reduces the likelihood of future involvement with the criminal justice system.
The Office of Intervention and Detention Alternatives aligns jail management activities and serves as the liaison for the Courts, State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, as well as criminal justice and reentry focused advocacy groups. Intervention and Detention Alternatives serves as support to the Public Safety Coordinating Council (PSCC) which focuses on jail population management and recidivism issues in the community. The PSCC makes recommendations to the Board to effectively and safely manage the detention facility population.
