Disaster Volunteer Training
In times of disaster VolunteerLEON, a Division of Leon County Government, serves as an Emergency Support Function (ESF) 15. In this role VolunteerLEON provides on-site coordination and training of volunteers to assist those affected by the disaster.
VolunteerLEON serves as the County’s Disaster Volunteer and Donation Coordinator and we are recruiting and training volunteers to work side by side with County employees and play an important role and perform a valuable service answering non-emergency phone calls during shifts at the County’s Emergency Operation Center. Leon County relies upon trained disaster volunteers to work with professionals to ensure a coordinated emergency relief operation that can deliver fast, efficient service to disaster survivors.
Trained volunteers are effective volunteers, and it is especially critical that volunteers working in the Emergency Operation Center have been properly oriented and trained in advance of a disaster. Come check out the County’s state-of-the-art facility, and sign up to be trained to be part of Leon County’s Response Team. You’ll learn a lot and meet great like-minded people like yourself. We invite you to attend an orientation and training, April 29, 2015 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to learn more about this exciting disaster volunteer opportunity in the Leon County Emergency Operations Center.
VolunteerLEON will also host a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) training exercise on May 20, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Program Rooms of the Main Library. This training session prepares participants to staff the VRC to register and place spontaneous volunteers in times of disaster. and to ensure that volunteers are given meaningful and constructive opportunities to satisfy their desire to assist in a time of need, while not overwhelming the affected community during the disaster response and recovery process. The training includes an interactive volunteer reception center exercise where participants experience the VRC model and practice managing spontaneous volunteers
