Leon County Commissioners Celebrate
the Grand Opening of Orange Avenue with a Block Party and
Community Parade
Leon County celebrated the Grand Opening
of Orange Avenue on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, with a block
party, which included a free lunch provided by Sandco, Inc.,
a ribbon cutting ceremony, and a community parade. The event
took place on Orange Avenue, next to the Greater Love Church
of God in Christ.
Chairman Bill Proctor proclaimed that
it was a proud day for the community, and pledged that
the improvements to Orange Avenue would bring value to
the Southside.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony,
the Rickards High School Band led the parade, and
community members of all ages were invited to
participate. People walked, rode their bicycles, pulled
wagons and pushed strollers down to the Jim Lee Road
roundabout and back.
