Salary Range: $10.00-$19.40 Hourly*

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The employee in the position is responsible for maintaining park grounds and facilities by picking up litter and inspecting facilities for safety and general repair; cleans restrooms, showers, and sanitary facilities; plants trees, shrubs, flowers, and sod according to specifications; inspects playground areas and athletic fields for safety hazards and makes necessary repairs. The employee in the position also maintains baseball infields to protect safety of users and optimizes aesthetics; marks athletic fields as prescribed by league regulations, using field points and lining dust; replaces sports nets on basketball goals, tennis courts, and soccer nets at first indication of wear; installs and removes athletic equipment as necessary to coincide with sports seasons; performs minor masonry work to repair barbecues, stairways, slabs, and sidewalks; applies fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to promote healthy plant growth and to remove offensive plant materials and/or pests.  The employee in this position acts as lead worker to Maintenance Technicians and other Park Attendants; greets visitors and responds to user concerns; distributes literature to park patrons and post information at designated facilities; erects park rule signs, safety related signs, and visitor information signs in prudent and required areas; performs minor carpentry to repair wood structures, assembles picnic tables, constructs signs, and improves facilities; repairs, replaces, and installs fences, gates and security devices as required; cuts grass in prescribed areas at the height required for optimum turf vigor; trims bushes, trees, and woody stem plants using hand operated and power tools; eradicates invasive plant species and other unwanted pests; sharpens, fixes and/or repairs all hand tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks; inspects, lubricates, and operates all power tools and equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires graduation from a standard high school or an equivalent and six months of experience in maintaining greenways, grounds keeping, landscaping and maintenance of park facilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Must possess basic knowledge of carpentry and masonry work.  Must possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.  Must possess the ability to operate power tools, understand technical specifications, manuals and drawings.  Must possess the ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs.  Must possess a valid Driver’s license and a favorable driving record at time of hire.  Certification License for Limited Chemical Application-Turf & Ornamental is preferred.
