Salary Range: $17.04-$34.20 Hourly*

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Inspects building sites for Building Code compliance, State and Federal Regulations, proper health and safety precautions and other legal requirements; provides coordinative oversight of construction sites to ensure Public Work staff and other state official staff are kept up-to-date regarding special onsite conditions; ensures new construction complies with the Florida 101 Life safety Code, Florida Building Code, and the Florida Fire Prevention Code; inspects for and enforces Federal Emergency Management Agency flood plain requirements; conducts plumbing inspections of plumbing systems in new construction to ensure compliance with the Florida Plumbing Code; conducts mechanical inspection of heating ventilations and air conditioning for new construction to ensure compliance with the Florida Mechanical and Gas Codes; inspects building sites for electrical code compliance for new construction to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code; inspects and enforces Leon County Residential Design Mobile Home Ordinance standards; inspects and enforces Leon County Broadcast and Communication Antenna Support Structures Ordinance; inspects existing buildings for code compliance with the Florida Existing Building Code; prepares daily inspections and investigations reports and maintains appropriate files, records of inspections and vehicle usage; in a client-sensitive manner, confers with and interpret code requirements for inspectors, contractors, engineers, other state officials, and the general public; supports Code enforcement and Housing and Human Services through Minimum Housing inspection and Code investigation.

REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of experience as an inspector, engineer, architect, superintendent foreman or tradesman in charge of construction.  Must possess or obtain a Provisional or Standard License issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) as a 1 and 2 Family Dwelling Inspector (residential building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical).  Must possess or obtain a minimum of one Florida DBPR Provisional or Standard commercial/industrial license in mechanical, plumbing, building, or electrical inspection.  Must be able to update appropriate provisional licenses to standard licenses before expiration of the provisional license as required by Florida Statutes.  Must possess a valid Driver's license and a favorable driving record at time of hire.
