Traffic Sign Technician
Public Works/Operations/Transportation
Salary Range: $10.00-$19.40 Hourly*

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs sign fabrication, maintenance and installation on public and private streets and road within Leon County; uses a personal computer with Flexi-Sign software to design text and graphics; keeps records of new road signs, cost of subdivisions; operates various equipment, such as chainsaws, drills, blowers, pavement saws, etc., in performing tasks; produces various paperwork; drives 4, 8, 12, and 16yard dumptrucks; drives crew truck hauling crew and materials; operates various construction and farm equipment, such as tractors, rollers, in absence of the normal operator and for special projects as required; conducts traffic/speed studies; operates radar gun, recording information and visibly count and record data; operates and maintain traffic control counters; performs street sign inventory; installs pavement markings on roadways, parking lots, etc. through the use of long line paint striping equipment and thermoplastic; performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent and two years of related experience or experience in road maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training of experience.  Must possess a valid Class “E” Driver’s license and favorable driving record at the time of hire or promotion.  Must have successfully passed the written exam for a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license with an “N” endorsement.  Must secure a Class “B” license with an “N” endorsement within 90 days of being hired or promoted.  Must possess or be able to obtain in six months of employment a Florida Department of Transportation Maintenance of Traffic Certificate.  Must be able to obtain within six months of employment an Excavation Contractor License and complete Work Program Policies and Procedures Training.
