Rural Waste Site Attendant

Office of Resource Stewardship/Solid Waste
Salary Range: $9.52-$18.48 Hourly*

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: An employee assigned to this position checks incoming solid waste and make sure materials are disposed of  in appropriate location; checks waste stream for hazardous materials, insuring that materials come from Leon County residents; cleans site of solid waste that may have blown out of cans or that is deposited incorrectly; operates a trash compactor; performs minor maintenance and repair work on trash compactor; assists the public, including truck drivers and maintenance crews.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires completion of the eighth grade and six months of related and public contact work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Knowledge of proper dumping procedures and hazardous materials helpful.  Requires the ability to read, write, count, and follow oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with the public; work independently with minimal supervision; and lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.  Requires standing for extended periods of time and working under extreme weather and environmental conditions.  Must possess a valid Drivers License and a favorable driving record.  Applicants for this position must be available to work four, 10 hour days including Saturday and Sunday.  This position will be assigned to the Fort Braden Rural Waste Service Center.

*Initial placement may be negotiated above the minimum salary based on verified related education, experience, and training above the minimum requirements.
